I think it is a brilliant idea to create side projects like renting small stalls. It will definitely revive the market and thus creating a 'traffic' so there will be more purchases from the customers.

My family, starting with my great-grandparents were merchants at La Marqueta from its creation in the 1940s until the mid '60s. They were Jewish pushcart vendors, later selling childrens clothing at what I believe was then called the Park Avenue Public Market. (fact check needed). I visited what they referred to as "The Place" as a young child and clearly recall the "fishy smell" mentioned in the article. My Yiddish-speaking grandmother spoke broken Spanish to their customers. Thank you for providing this missing link in my family history.

Thank you for your comment, I changed the url to match the title. The original url reflected issues with our website at the time of posting (and my frustration about the article's technical problems, not the article's subject!) and was not meant as a description of La Marqueta.

Great article. But, why is the web file named "La Marqueta de la Muerte" (the "Market of Death" or, perhaps "Dead Market"?). Quite a poor and offensive description for a community landmark.
