Puerto Rican activists founded East Harlem’s Museo del Barrio in 1969. Since then, more Mexican immigrants have moved to the neighborhood, crime has decreased and the museum has reopened after this year’s renovations. Rebecca Huval talked to one security guard who watched these changes and cherishes his post, even though he’s qualified for higher-paying jobs.
